Portrait Insporation
My inspiration for the portrait assignment was Photographer Edward Honaker. Often dealing with his own mental health anguishes, Edward crafts beautifully compelling pictures that help give a visual representation of what's going on in the mind of a person dealing with mental health.
Honaker's use of black and white photography and his candid approach to portraying his struggles with mental health can serve as a great inspiration for my portrait assignment that seeks to capture the essence of a person's emotional state or inner turmoil.
For my portraits I wanted to use that blurred effect in his image but to showcase it for drug and alcohol use. How the world around us slowly starts to get blurred and disheveled the more under the influence we are. Often blinding our visuals senses, making us see things that aren't there.
The big difference for me would be that the mind on drugs is less scarier place to be than the mind on depression or the like
Utilizing vibrant colors instead of the black and white style that Honaker uses with his photo manipulation, to give the image a melancholy feeling. There's a certain sadness in his images that aren't in mine, devoid of colors, devoid of life.
