Identity: Gloria Lopez
"Every time I hit a rough patch I would draw, and I would draw things that would help me distract myself from the world for a moment"
“What got me into art… Well when I was in middle school, I signed up to be part of the theater/backstage crew club but the teacher lost
his leg so then they put me into art class instead and it was dope. One thing I
love about art is I get to draw dicks all day...Lol just kidding I love how I can
I can create anything just a paper and pencil. Let’s my imagination run wild
and relieves my stress. Every time I hit a rough patch I would draw, and I
would draw things that would help me distract myself from the world for a moment,
so I would draw like little comics and write stories about them. I guess? The
most impact my life has on my art is the color. I always manage to add yellow
and blue, my fave two colors, and a lion and a sun.”
“A little something about myself is that…fuck, well I love socializing
and hanging out. I love hanging out with friends and watching movies at the
theater, most importantly love hanging out with my family and having pride of
where I come from… HOUSTON TEXAS, can never forget where I come from. My fam is
a close unit. Whenever we have our little dramas we still have each other’s
back we can never honestly leave anyone behind. They know how to make you
strong, but with a kind heart. They make sure you’re independent but grateful.
It’s an okay balance of love and laughs.”
“I decided to go to college because I wanted to set up a
positive example to all my younger cousins back home, more importantly my
little sister. I wanted to show her that since we both started at the same
place and I managed to make it to college and follow my dreams, then nothing is
in her way either. Plus, I got a dream to fulfill and college is my ticket to
it. What I would say to young female artists and creators out there right now
would be; Start now, just let all that creativity flow out, and rules were
meant to be broken. Don’t stop even if people try to tell you that it looks
weird or doesn’t look good.”
